I had heard nothing but rave reviews from my friends so I decided to watch Deja Vu. Luckily they didn't ruin the plot for me, for I was caught off guard. I give the story a 4.5 but am still not impressed with Denzel Washington. He did a decent jobs but about 10 other action stars came to mind for the role. Hell, I don't think Steven Seagal could've ruined this movie. The movie does get a bit long, but there is so much going on and they build up to total closure. I was reminded of Minority Report and a few other sci-fi movies but it's still original enough to be entertaining. If you are a Denzel fan, you will like it. I would watch it for the story and the support acting more than anything.

MCT:August 12, 2008I am not a fan of time travel, especially when it ruins a perfectly good movie. The ending is ripe with loose ends and logical fallacies, and left we with a burning desire to travel back in time to prevent myself from watching it.

However there are some problems with how things change and don;t change with time travel that make me feel the story wasn;t entirely thought through

MCT:August 10, 2008I thought this story had already been told by J.K. Rowling in her fantastic novel Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban? Rowling named it a Time-Turner and her story was loads better than this weak Déjà-vu (about the only French word the Americans know and they still mispronounce the "u").
Anyway this movie should have been called Copycat instead!

MCT:August 8, 2008This is one of those films which thrilled me and surprised mr at the same time. Even though the idea is not very original, the way in which the story is told is completely fresh and interesting. An incredible film packed with action and unbeliuevable twists from the beginning to the end.

a very clever and intelligent thriller that mixes your regular detective solving mystery's with minority report style futuristic sci fi and a timetravelling sidepart to boot. As imaginable it gets a bit messy and at times unrealistic obviously so it does help to try and accept what you watch with a pinch of salt (which at time conflicts with the serious intelligent fast paced opening half).That said the film is well shot, exciting and denzel washington is on top form and as emotionally compelling as always.

The sequence where he is driving in real time, but looking through the glass eye thing into the past is freakin awesome. Washington is a fuckin delight to watch! But Val Kilmer ate a small child since I saw him in Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang, hell fattie.

Where Minority Report features policemen peering into the near future to prevent crimes, Deja Vu has policemen peering into the recent past to solve crimes. It's an interesting film (featuring the always magnificent Denzel Washington) but it comes across a bit pretentious and over-blown. It seems that sometimes screenwriters get so caught up trying to impress us that they forget to engage us. Such is the case here. Good, but not great.

The movie develops well and it is different from what I expected. It has good suspenseful sequences, although at the end the movie takes a "Bruckheimer" ending, which affects the movie. If you like time traveling movies (like me) you will enjoy this sci fi thriller.

a great premise of a terrorist attack on a boat sets in chain a motinon of events of time travel and trying to save someone you love by travelling through time. brilliantly excellent drama and action work well together and the film never becomes a gung ho flick.

A very brilliant and well made movie.....Magnificent role and acting of Denzel....The idea of changing past to future is not something new but with a very well develop script like this one...you can find every thing that you want in a movie.....I wont go into detail..just one thing for sure no chance for disappointment here.

Another recommended movie by a friend... The story evolves mainly on the massive investigation after a ferry filled with USS crewmen and their families explode which kills over 500 people including a large group of party-going sailors, an ATF agent played by Denzel investigates the crime.
There are a couple of twists in the plot that I thought really made the film that much more interesting. Denzel gives a decent performance as an ATF agent collaborating with the FBI in a ferry bombing. After viewing a satellite surveillance, Carlin also stumbles upon a woman named Claire Kuchever, who has been murdered shortly before the Ferry incident. Carlin also finds out that he can use the surveillance systems to travel backwards in time which is 4 days before the Ferry incident, so he can stop Claire's murder, and to stop the Ferry incident saving many lives.
From this point in the film, the movie moves from a crime film to a sci-fi film. . The end of the film may be confusing to some people, but it is all laid out if one cares to look carefully. -

kinda confusing at first but its getting interesting while the movie is approaching to the end. denzel washington is a great actor as ever but i never expected jim caviezel to be the bad guy in this movie (sigh.. i like him alot lol). overall great movie. :D

Still trying to work out if I thought this film was amazing or just ok. The story is split into 3 acts. The first is like a police drama, trying to solve a murder. The next is similar but with very modern day high tech gadgets and then the third is pure sci fi. I think its pretty original in this way. The story (if you can follow it) is pretty good, providing you don't get disappointed after watching a murder film for it to develop into sci fi. Denzell Washington is great as usual. Oh and the car chase scene is original and pretty awesome. I would say its worth a watch. Try and keep up with the story. It all makes sense in the end.

I think this is one of the greatest movie I have ever seen...Denzel Washington is a great actor...It has a good plot and has you sitting down and don't want to get up when u start watching this movie..because it's so darn good!!! 5 starts for this movie ...definitely!

Good movie and worth the watch. I wouldn't really pick apart this movie because it deserves some credit. The action was good, there was intensity, drama,and denzel did a great job at convincing the audience. This was similar to the butterfly effect but you know, almost better.

I thought this movie was fucking legend. The car chases and plot twists i was gripped for the whole movie. Denzel washington was brilliant. This is an eerie plotline which was slightly confusing in places but its director did well. I would watch this over and over. =]

I think there is alot more to this film than many people seem to realise. People pick at small details without really analysing the editing. As far as I can see everything that appears inconsistent is deliberately portrayed on the screen. It reminded me of Memento mixed with what potentially could have been Minority Report (if it was any good)
I suggest that anyone who enjoyed this movie enough the first time, but thought there was plot holes to go see it again.posted 575 days ago
